Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to THE COLLAPSE!!!
I will also probably heat minimally but I might contact my friend and get some wood too…
I just love how our beloved European Union tries to prevent local consumers from buying oil, gas, wood, you name it from Russia. If the gods want punish anyone, he takes away his sanity. I am pro-Russian troll, so all I can do about this is try to survive in Europe and laugh as things around me go to shit…
You see, Europe produces junk with an added value. This is not to say the products are bad but these products depend on primary commodities more often than not coming from Russia, they depend on deliveries made by trucks, which all run on oil. Their makers eat bread which requires Russian gas.
Banning these commodities may cause Russia some problems but in the end, the Russians will find new customers. Their gas and oil prices will not rise, and Russian producers will not suffer from their break with the West. Same cannot be said of us Europeans.
The result of this is nothing but impoverishment of the local population, and the closure of local industries. Out of desperation, they will probably return to burning coal, we have plenty of that still.
UPD:
But in the meantime, Brudermuller described that “It’s not enough that we all turn down the heating by 2 degrees now” given that “Russia covers 55 percent of German natural gas consumption.” He emphasized that if Russian gas disappeared overnight, “many things would collapse here” – given that “we would have high levels of unemployment, and many companies would go bankrupt. This would lead to irreversible damage.” He continued:
“To put it bluntly: This could bring the German economy into its worst crisis since the end of the Second World War and destroy our prosperity. For many small and medium-sized companies in particular, it could mean the end. We can’t risk that!”
As for my home country, the Czech Republic, the Czech economy acts as a subcontractor of the German economy. So, if Germany goes to shit, they will drag us fully into it.
How does reading something like this make you feel?
More “renewables”, more green bullshit. Blessed be those that can afford to stay warm in Winter. We will all pay for the Russophobia of our governments.
There are some out there who seem to get it. However, why should Gazprom want long term contracts with European consumers now when prices are so favourable?
Once again, it seems the Russians are having the last laugh. Europe needs energy poverty to replace its political class…
Something rather momentous is happening…
Driving to work, I have to pass through woods that were planted on the hill over centuries by the Schwarzenberg family that used the castle I work in as a residence and later as a hunting lodge. I saw and elderly, rather uncouth gentleman collecting tree branches. Energy poverty has arrived to my country.
At another instance, a friend of my sitting in a clandestine pub of ours (pubs were regulated out of existence here), said he finds it difficult to pay for the variety of fuels available in shops. My friend lives in a 16th century house, which does not have the insulation of modern homes. Heating homes with gas or electricity is a luxury for many in this country (the Czech Republic).
The EU seems to have reached the fruits of its labour. For years, I have heard about divesting from Russian energy, about making life hell for Gazprom. I have seen sanctions against the Russian energy sector. I have read claims that the countries of Europe will build a renewable infrastructure that will leave Gazprom in the cold. But the situation today is that prices of gas are through the roof. There is a deficit. Prices of electricity are also high and there isn’t any renewable energy infrastructure to make it cheaper.
Heck, there haven’t been any nuclear reactors installed in the Czech lands since the 1980s. Today the EU wants us to phase out coal, which is 20% of our energy output. But what do you think the people responsible for energy in the Czech Republic are suggesting? More renewable. More solar and more wind. However, there have been government subsidies for solar for years, and this scheme was absolutely corrupt. What makes anyone believe this time will be different?
The solution is to let the Russians deliver and distribute gas but our pride will not allow this to happen. Know this, the Western governments would rather have their people freeze in winter than make honest deals with the Russians…
Member of Parliament, Evhen Brahar of the Servant of the People party, tells an old lady, who called into a TV talkshow and complained that her 2000,- HRN does not pay for gas to sell her dog and pay for gas…
