I think part of the problem is this: ok, Trump has his way of doing things. Correct me if I’m wrong, but he even ensured Poland’s Duda that he’s going to reduce troops in NATO’s eastern flank. There’s a reason why Duda is both pro-Trump and pro-Ukraine, on top of the usual Russophobic hysteria. BUT but but, the average West Europeans and Muricans have become soooo thin skinned that any attempt at challenging the status quo will be antagonized.
Upon seeing the reaction like this, I almost had the return of the idea I’ve had a while ago: just have China provide a bit patting on the back for figures like Trump or even Tucker Carlson for that matter, while increasing cooperation with Elon Musk. But knowing how stubborn America’s right can be, this may not work. And not to mention Xi is not the type of guy that likes to take risks that’s far beyond his control – he may fuck it up somehow even if he tries, as it’s just not his way of doing things.

The way China is going to get at US is the DeepSeek way. Create something that surpasses what the US makes and offer it to the World for free or for premium prices. Create Chinese Starlink like constellation for instance.

It’s another way to go about it, I suppose. What China is trying to do, is to prevent US from taking over the tech sector. I mean, back in 2000s, tons of countries came up with their own version of social media platform, but what happened? How come there’s only US platform such as Facebook, Reddit, Quora, WhatsApp…etc? When you look at it this way, then perhaps Great Firewall does have some utilitarian purpose. If it wasn’t for Great Firewall, things such as TikTok, or its domestic version Douyin, nor Red Note, nor BiliBili, nor Zhihu, will be around. At best, we’ll have Baidu, but that’s about it. And Deepseek probably won’t be created in the first place. Perhaps part of the purpose of Great Firewall is meant to protect Chinese digital business.
Imo such approach has its pro and con compared to the things I talk about such as the whole united social outcast/Confucian reject Jamahiriya deal and the Pacific Monroe Doctrine with US so US can withdraw from western Pacific (except territories such as Guam and North Mariana Islands), but apparently, it’s the way where most relevant folks in China feel comfortable with, so it’s what it is I guess.
