Ukraine is not your classic ethnostate. I don’t believe there is ethnicity called Ukrainian, no matter how hard they try to create it. Their ethnicity is Russian.😆 Ukrainian identity is civic and to a smaller extent linguistic. But even the president, who is Jewish, reads Ukrainian from a teleprompter. 😆 The Czechs kinda existed here since 7-8th century. The Czech nation is a result of a nineteenth century larp much like the Ukrainians (Ukrainians are largely a twentieth century thing, also the Czechs to some extent). I am not sure this ethnostate is what a modern state needs to be. Look at where it led Ukraine.
One of the main narratives in the West is that Putin is a mad dictator, who just out of the blue attacked innocent Ukraine that was minding its own business. One must understand that Ukraine is a post-Soviet state with a diverse ethnic and linguistic makeup and borders drawn by the General Secretaries for convenience. Hence, Ukraine entered independence with a large Russian population and a Russian naval base on the Crimean peninsula.
And in this Ukraine, the West sponsored a violent anti-Russian coup by neonazi militias in 2014. This was literally an act of war. In modern times hot war is really a last resort when everything else fails. The most common ways are influence campaigns and pressure through financial and material embargoes. Western propaganda calls it hybrid warfare when Russia does it. And the so called Maidan was sponsored by the likes of US State Department, George Soros, Pierre Omidyar, the Czech embassy, the Dutch embassy, and many others. Basically all those entities gave money to violent Russophobes. Never forget that!
The Maidan was an illegal usurpation of government by anti-Russian forces, and Russia did not hesitate and annexed Crimea. The Maidan also triggered anti-Maidan protest in South-East of Ukraine that led to the collapse of government in many areas. The eastern Donbas in particular slipped from Ukraine’s control. How much this process was helped by Russia is debated. The Ukrainians and their supporters have a tendency to focus on Russian involvement and the Russians on the other hand stress the agency of the locals. Both sides are actually correct on many points.
Russia did intervene to save DNR and LNR from being overrun by Ukrainian forces both directly, and by supplying the Donbas Militia with weapons. Was Russia wrong when it supported a clearly pro-Russian movement in Ukraine? Should Russia have stayed idly and allow the Ukrainians to crush the rebellion? Well, Russia actually almost did Pashinyan. Mind you humanitarian intervention is a thing since the days of NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. In that NATO literally broke Serbia, gave Albanian separatists a state and put a big ass base on that territory. Real politik commanded that Russia as a great power should take action.
Little do people realize but the supporters of the Maidan in the West knew very well what this shit is going to lead to, that is civil war in Ukraine. If they didn’t, then we are ruled by some incredibly stupid people and I doubt this is the case. And this is precisely why they blew up Ukraine. They turned Ukraine into a weapon with which they will attack Putin. The West wanted regime change in Russia for a long time, and better yet they wanted a break up of Russia into many Russias. Little manageable Ukraines that will be too weak to pose a threat and have a mind of their own.
Russia is not very aggressive, this is not Putin’s style. Part of this is because Russia isn’t that strong but a great deal is due to Putin’s personality I believe. Putin treats brute force as means of last resort and always seeks a political solution to conflicts. He understands that for a lasting peace you need a political solution ultimately. Ukraine had ample chance to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.
One of these mechanisms was the Minsk accords. Both Poroshenko and Zelensky had a constitutional majority and could have implemented the political part of Minsk, and could have withdrawn troops from Donbas. This way they would leave Donbas rebels no choice but to implement their part of the deal. None of this was done. Ukraine also blocked water and electricity to Crimea, which is another casus belli.
It is now clear and confirmed by Western officials that the Minsk was never to be implemented and was only used to buy Ukraine time to rearm. Ukraine wanted to reintegrate the lost territories through force. To which Russia responded with invasion. Next, the Ukrainian government decided to defeat Putin’s invasion army. The Ukrainians and their Western supporters came up with various copes such as Ukraine is defending Europe, Ukraine is fighting dictatorship. In reality, Ukraine is fighting a cynical proxy war, and it is a proxy war as mentioned by Boris Johnson and Marco Rubio. A proxy war using Ukrainians as a cannon fodder for the interests of Western designs on Russia.

I must say that I have written countless posts discussing why Ukrainian is a peasant patois, and Ukraine is literally a twentieth century invention supported by anti-Russian assholes. And the counter argument to this is actually equally potent. All nations are invented, the Czech nation is a nineteenth century invention that really crystallized after 1918, the creation of Czechoslovakia. The German nation is a nineteenth century invention too, so are the Italians and the French.
And my biggest gripe with Ukraine ever was that the policies of the government completely contradicted what the country needs. I was always critical of the unitary nature of Ukraine, or trying to push the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian nationalism on a largely Russian speaking population. There are democratic means of maintaining a state like Ukraine. Federalism, and minority rights. You know what I mean but Ukraine never implemented any of this. They behaved like 1930s radical nationalists and blamed outside meddling when things didn’t work out. 😆
Another of my contention is that project Ukraine has always been an attempt to use the Khokhols to break Russia. Basically, outside powers like Austria-Hungary and Germany have sponsored this Ukrainian nationalist shit to get at their enemies. Inter-war Poland and Czechoslovakia were other victims of this policy. The agency was then taken over by the Anglos and used against USSR and modern Russia. And as long as Ukraine will pose as anti-Russia as Putin calls it, they will have a constant problem with Russia. Matter of fact, their radical nationalism will put them in conflict with all of their neighbors.
Ultimately, if you are a supporter of Ukraine, why do you support this Ukrainian self-destruction in the service of others?

Baldur’s Gate III was a really cool game, and I had lot of fun playing through it. But the Larian Studios that made it will not work on a sequel.

Dear readers, I had the honor to play Civilization VII for the past three nights, and I am sorely disappointed. The game feels like a simulation of a Civilization game rather than a real Civ…
The game introduces a new mechanic of changing ages. And with an age you change a civilization. So, I was playing in the ancient age, as the Romans, led by Harriet Tubman. 😆 And suddenly, I managed to make it to the exploration age, where I chose the Spanish.
One moment in the game I had Roman legions, suddenly the scenery changed, and I had Spanish tercios armed with muskets and halberds. I was literally transported from 1 AD to the 1500. I have nothing against the idea of ages, and changing of civilization. But I expected the change to be gradual, I expected to be faced with a crisis. I expected my old age units to be retained and I would have to spend money to upgrade them. Upgrading units as in other Civ games seems not implemented. You cannot upgrade early game warriors to legionnaires.
Also, units don’t seem to be linked to resources. I must say I was spamming legions like there was no tomorrow. I have not researched gunpowder or developed related resources but I had a number of tercios. So I gathered them and went on to conquer a city. The musket and halberd armed tercios were weak against a swordsman. Luckily I took the city because I overwhelmed my opponent with units. Yesterday I tried to take one of those neutral settlements and I walked in and did not take it over.
In this game you kinda never know if you are doing something wrong or the game is glitched. The game held rather steady, I did not experience any crashes but I had several animation glitches when units are attacking.
Overall, I must say I am glad I did not pay for it, and played it from my relative’s Steam library. I have actually bought only two games recently, that is Space Marine II and Baldur’s Gate III. I will not be turning Civ VII on for now. Maybe if they get to work and present a very different game several months from now, I might give it a go.

Personally, I would not even be so anal about electric vehicles if the EU did not want to ban combustion engine by 2035, and there wasn’t a sense of hopelessness that we cannot do anything about it. Politicians cannot be trusted, and those that can don’t have enough support. It is fucked up, and hopefully forces that want to keep the combustion engine for the people to exploit will win in the end.
EVs are an evolutionary dead end. Tesla looks high tech, and those Chinese EVs seem to be quite neat but combustion engine is still superior. Batteries make trucks heavy, I am sorry but they need to have a diesel engine. I am all for hybrids, they seem to make consumption of diesel fuel more efficient, and I am for diesel fuel made from sources other than oil. I wonder how much diesel a society can generate from cooking oil, and other biological material? Imagine households could sell this shit to diesel refineries powered by nuclear reactors. I could even have a bio-reactor to make basic materials in my garden.
EVs don’t like very low or very high temperatures. They are simply shit cars. We need good reliable gear on not some ideologically propped garbage.
Solar panels don’t interest me, we don’t even have a sun in this part of the world. I give some chances to geothermal and I am totally bullish on nuclear. We need those nuclear reactors built ASAP. Windmills need to be discarded and anyone building them shamed.
