I remember the former president of Czechia, Zeman proposed linking Danube with Oder and Elbe. He was laughed at and so our only access to the sea is through Elbe. Maybe some forces want it that way.
Also, Hungary was the first European country to sign the Belt and Road initiative. I hear the Chinese are building transport infrastructure there. What more do you need? Electricity and transport infrastructure is the stuff modern economy needs. You need fast communication and fast delivery. The Chinese and the Russians have enough cash to finance these projects. They will extract revenue from the Hungarians later.
Do the Hungarians need 22 billion euros from the EU? Is it right to intimidate countries over serious issues like immigration, or trans propaganda to children using money? The German and other European flight operators are no longer competitive because Russia closed its airspace to them. Russia did so because of 16,000 sanctions imposed on the former by Western countries in support of Ukrainian Nazis.

The benefits are not all that bad, I can live in any EU country, indefinitely, look for work there, the only thing stopping me is a language barrier. I can also set up a business say in Estonia or Romania and take advantage of local rules. The idea of a pan-European superstate is also not all that bad but the way it is implemented kind of sucks.

They have supplied weapons and ammunition in large quantities to Ukraine. They have provided Ukraine with intelligence from satellites and moles on the Russian side. The Russian claims might be a bit stretched but then what should one make of claims by Western politicians that Russian victory would mean the end of Western hegemony?
