FPV drones bought on the open market, and sent to Ukraine by initiatives such as the Czech Drony nemesis had their hurrah in this war…
There were some nasty applications of these drones. They would attach plastic explosives to them and use them to kill personnel. But this new game changing weapon has been neutralized by electronic jamming and the soldiers learned to shoot these birds, as they call them, out of the sky. The most effective drones are attached to fiber optic cables, which makes them immune to jamming or hacking.

I think the whole deal is kind of like Toyota War between Libya and Chad back in the 80s. Chadian forces had to use Toyota pickup trucks armed with heavy weapons to counter Gaddafi’s mechanized troops. Gaddafi ended up adapting the same tactic and Libyan forces also rode technical too. It was then, the technical vehicles became a thing among all the rebel groups around the world. This war may cause anyone who wanna start shit to buy more FVP drones.

The thing is that Russian special forces and Wagner already made an extensive use of drones in Syria but somehow the Ukrs were able to come up with FPV drone squads early into the Russian intervention starting 2022. Of late though, the Russians implemented similar tactics. But they are also countering Ukrainian squads with cluster ammunition Iskander rocket strikes.
