FPV Carnage

I have posted this video, unlisted on YouTube. I have seen countless footage like this, from the Ukrainian side and the Russian side. This is from the Russian “Group Centre”. Drones are the total game changer of this war, much like artillery was in WWI. Some snotty fucker with first person goggles, who was playing video games yesterday takes out an entire squad of infantry on an APC or a truck. This shit is mad.

And you can see some of the guys use rifles trying to shoot the drone down, the only defense apart from jammers there is. I don’t know, should the soldiers carry shields?

  1. Shield won’t help. Autocannons with the sensors detecting movements. Also infantry could use nets, I think they actually started already, whenever camping, laying down, Russians put protective nets.

And obviously practicing taking them down. North Korean troops were trained to shoot down drones before coming, to the point that Russian drone pilots complained they lost plenty drones due to “friendly fire”.

Most of infantry traditionally couldn’t really aim, especially since invention of automatic rifles the whole thing was idiots spraying bullets around. It was effective enough due to suppression effect. But from now on only those that can aim will be useful.

      1. And better armor, concentrated attack of tanks will easily break any drone based defense, since drones are slow to launch, and with tanks now been able to survive 20 plus drones it’s easy to see how things can go south for such defenses.

The main way drones changed the battlefield for tanks is that now they can scout for artillery. That’s why we don’t see armor rushes. Artillery actually became way more deadly.

And this is actually where is panic for Ukrainians, they actually have less and less barrels. And Russia is developing these 60 kilometers fiber drones to hunt for artillery.

I’m still thinking that turretless armor will come back. Kind of like old school antitanks, but this time with bunch sensors on top, plus some autocannons to destroy drones. Some could even serve as offensive drone carriers, signal extenders.

But yeah infantry is just shitty job to have, but so it was always. 2300 years ago some Roman soldier was yelled at to hold the line while Phyrrhus elephants were charging at him.

      2. A tank is basically a mobile artillery and it is actually quite useful. It provides extra firepower. APCs seem more maneuverable than the personal vehicles or motorcycles that we often see. They can go through bad terrain.
