So the other day, Czech media reported that German heavy tanks Leopard 2 delivered to Ukraine sit idle in the woods and are not being used because of drones. Funnily enough, Czechia sent all of its Soviet tanks to Ukraine and bought 40 Leopards. 🐆 So we will have a fleet of legacy technology that seems to now be obsolete.
A tank packs a tremendous firepower but it is slow and expensive and the people have spent the better part of the second half of the twentieth century coming up with ways to counter the tank. FPV drones seem to be the final nail in the coffin ⚰️ of the heavy tanks. Armored knights and pikemen persisted well over the sixteenth century but eventually faded out by the time of the 30 year war. The future will see lighter, faster, smaller, more autonomous kind of vehicles carrying big guns. Or perhaps will see a return of the heavy tank with a plasma shield. 😆👌
