Debates of Musk, Open AI and Anthropic about a catastrophe created by Artificial Intelligence are a blatant attempt to take the technology under their control. They want laws that will protect them from competitors in the US, where the main AI technologies are created.
I agree with the last point, the big AI companies are trying to stir up hype around the dangers of AI to limit their competitors through government regulations. AI threatens to make some jobs obsolete but I don’t think it is going to be that dramatic as some alarmists paint this. At present AI is nothing but a glorified search engine.
