So, I watched Mark Galeotti video on how to reconcile the West and Russia… Unfortunately the OP has disabled embedding it on other sites. But nevertheless this is what I will discuss here…
Guys, the Western formula for Russia hasn’t really changed over centuries. Really since like the Mongol invasion, and it really doesn’t matter if it is the Novgorod Republic, the Grand Duchy of Moscow, the Russian Tsardom, the Russian Empire, the USSR, or the Russian Federation. It doesn’t matter if the head of Russia is Alexander Nevsky, Vladimir Putin or Vasya Pupkin. The latter can choose to be a cuck or to be a based master.
Now, the West wants Russia to enter whatever the project it is currently building, like Catholicism, the Continental System, or US hegemony. And in that project, Russia is viewed as subordinate. Russia that is too large needs to be humbled, that’s why sometimes there is a Crimean War or Nazi crusade. And Russia that is contracted needs to be prevented from rising again. That’s why we have Nazi Maidans in Ukraine, which inevitably led to the current war.
And unfortunately, the Nazi Maidan in 2014 was the last straw. Russia did tolerate some form of Ukraine, as long as Ukraine remained neutral, and didn’t have NATO and EU aspirations. But the Ukrainian elite thought otherwise. And this meant war. And Galeotti makes a mistake thinking this is an imperial war. Russia doesn’t seek to rule Ukraine, Russia wants a pacified, neutral, and tolerant Ukraine. By destroying the Ukrainian military and depriving Ukraine of economic means, Russia seeks to get a meek Ukraine on its border.
Galeotti knows Russia well, he knows it is a national state of the Russians, not an empire and the Ukrainians are not Indians or Algerians. Nevertheless, he has bought into this imperial Russia myth; imperial Russia that needs its ass kicked like France in Algeria. He repeats that Russia is not the USSR. Thanks god Russia is not like the late USSR. He thinks, the West has the chance to entice Russia back by offering wealthy Russians shopping in Milan. I go to Italy often, to spa, and I meet and speak to many Russians that tell me the Italian embassy gives them visas, so what is stopping them from going to Milan?
The UK isn’t that attractive to the current Russian elite. It might have been popular to hold accounts in Channel Islands, have a condo in London, and give your child a trauma for like by sending the poor thing to Hogwarts. But this was all popular because Russia of the nineties was a mess. Britain today needs to work on its image to be attractive again for anyone, same goes for Paris or any other place in Western Europe. Moscow now offers, Hogwarts, BMWs, and Haute Couture. You see, Russia will have the need in machinery and technologies it doesn’t make but what if there is a Chinese option?
