I still don’t know what the fuck happened here. But to tell you the truth, Venezuela is a joke. South America in general produces cringe politics, grotesque violence, poverty porn… South American countries are poster children for bad economic policies world wide. Even this kidnapping of Maduro reeks of corruption, he was probably betrayed by people in his government from the looks of it.

That Chinese delegation that visited just before attack probably told him to give up, and explained to the others that they negotiated they can stay if they let Maduro down.
Basically I would bet it was Chinese idea to end the whole blockade. It was common in Chinese empire. Europe had similar stuff in middle ages, although it would be usually be some prince that was sent as a hostage instead of the king.
And yeah that Lennon song is most cringe shit ever, especially since Venezuelans are still relatively religious.
