9/11 Rant

OK, so I would like here to write a short rant on the War on Terror. Launched after the attacks on World Trade Center in NYC on 9/11/2001. What the fuck was it? The Muricans went to Afghanistan, toppled the government, which was Taliban, chased after Usama. They eventually caught Osama and found his collection of animated children movies. It all cost trillions of dollars, and the Muricans hastily left the country.

The Taliban, that previously demanded the US provide evidence of Osama’s guilt in the attacks, promptly took back the reigns of power from the US backed Afghan government. The Taliban then had a lot of fun riding and flying the gear Murican’s left behind.

What was it all for? To catch the terrorists? To destroy the terrorist threat? To fight them there so we don’t have to fight them here? This is what we have been told. Democratization of Afghanistan? So that Afghan girls can go to school? That was another part of the propaganda that we have been told. Did anybody believe that Afghanistan could become a democracy? I would not be surprised if there were such idealists in the Western establishment.

A theory has it that they wanted to secure Afghanistan and create a pivot to Central Asia, or what Halford Mackinder, the British geographer called heartland. This way they could build gas pipelines to the Indian Ocean, and control the gas supplies that are otherwise available for use to Russia and China, adversaries and competitors of the West. But that did not materialize.

While Russia offered the West help in 2001, today it is cozying up to the Taliban. I recently visited Bukhara in Uzbekistan, and heard that the city gets a lot of students from Afghanistan. Afghanistan clearly moves on…
