It’s just top down hatred, it was always like that. I mean you can see it in European monarchies of old, any emperor who showed some benevolence towards poor is kinda hated.
Russian emperor Nicholas 2nd for example, it’s easy to find even these days, he legit cared about poor, especially soldiers that were coming from poor families, like most of the modern day laws of warfare came from his initiatives.

Well true, but potatoes and bugs are two different things. Veganism was promoted by random celebrities, but plebs didn’t bought it.
