After claiming that we have achieved technological singularity, Elon introduces the World to another concept from futuristic discource. Kardashev Scale was developed in 1960s by the Soviet astrophysicist, Nikolai Kardashev as a typology of extraterrestrial civilizations.
Type I civilization uses the energy potential of its home planet.
Type II civilization harnesses the energy of potential of the home star or the entire star system of its home planet.
Type III controls the whole galaxy.
And there is a potential for Type IV that is intergalactic.
That’s how I understand it, and humanity is currently close to Type I and should achieve type one by 2100 according to Michio Kaku. Elon wants to accelerate this evolution. He now wants a base on the Moon. This should aid his journeys to Mars. But also could be motivated by Chinese-Russian plans to build a lunar base.
Some people think Elon is all about hype. He promised hyperloop and self-driving cars, and none of it materialized. But he knocked down the price of space launches through his reusable rockets, he made EVs cool. All car companies now copy Tesla with their LCD screens next to the wheal, which is stupid but they did it. Starlink was a success. Elon likes the hype but without trying shit out, there will be no success.
